Hi parents of Division 2,
This week, students will be completing the Foundation Skills Assessment for Grade 7s. We will be moving through the series of reading, writing, and numeracy portions so that we can complete the assessment in its entirety. As a result, most of our normal academic work will be put on hold. There will be no spelling and vocab list coming home this week (except for students who have been exempted from taking the assessment). Please encourage time to play and relax at home this week in light of the hard work that will be put into completing the FSA. If your child is going to be absent this week for any reason, please email me so that I can set aside another time for them to complete the portions that they miss.
We will also be participating in Student Vote on Friday morning, where students get to "share their voice" in choosing the next federal government. While their votes don't count toward the actual election, it is an educational opportunity to learn about governance, societal issues (I.e. climate change, pipeline projects, the economy, etc), and how elections work. This week, we will be digging into the belief systems behind the parties more closely so that students can make their own informed decision about which party they want to support with their vote. If you're looking for more info on how this is being facilitated, check out the amazing Student Vote website by Civix and some of the adapted activities on our very own Social Studies page.
Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Thanks,
Victoria
