This month, Division 1 students engaged with different texts, ranging from picture books to short stories, to set the tone for literature circle discussions. We worked on oral language skills such as active listening, asking leading questions that help to promote conversation, and ensuring everyone has a turn to share ideas. Students have now been placed in their literature circle groups for the remainder of the term, where we will be exploring a specific novel and diving into literary elements, such as characterization and theme. Weekly reading and assignments will be expected, so be sure to ask your child about their book!
We also have worked through various math units such as decimal, fraction, and percentage conversions as well as circumference and area of circles with Mrs. Sereduik. Another unit test will be coming up soon on decimals, fractions, and percentages, so watch out for that coming soon.
On January 29th, we had the opportunity to go to WGSS for Grade 7 Transition Day, where WGSS leadership students brought the Grade 7s through a series of activities and a tour to give them a taste of high school life. The next transition activity is planned for Tuesday, February 6th, when WGSS course planning will take place at our school.
Be sure to check out the News section of the website for what's coming down the pipe in February, and please note the Term 2 deadline of Friday, February 23 that is quickly approaching!
