Today the Grade 8 WGSS counsellor, Andrea Ruffo, and Vice Principal, Mr. Sean Juteau came to talk to us about course selection and planning for the transition into Grade 8... and HIGH SCHOOL!
They shared quite a bit of information with us including which courses students must select as well as elective choices. Your child will be bringing home some forms that you will need to go through together, including a course selection form that needs to be completed on paper AND online through MyEdBC by no later than Tuesday, February 25. There are several deadlines for the specialized program applications and challenge exams as well - they are detailed in the packet your child is bringing home.
The Grade 7 teaching team has requested that any programs that require a teacher recommendation (particularly the Math 8 challenge exam and the English Honours challenge exam) be given to us to fill out by no later than Friday, February 21. Unfortunately for us, the deadline for these forms falls directly at the same time that we are writing Term 2 report cards, so we need additional time to complete these and appreciate your understanding in advance.
Additionally, I will added some links below that have access to back-up forms in case any get lost along the way. For kids who are having conflicting feelings about which programs to apply for, we have encouraged them to apply for any and all programs that they're interested in to keep their options open, then make a decision later based on what they gain entry to, or don't.
We appreciate your support as we begin to navigate this transition! :)
