How to Access the OneNote Weekly Checklist at Home

11/4/2023

As the end of the term approaches, I wanted to provide you with an opportunity to see your student's progress toward assignment completion and to help them complete their work ahead of the term deadline. I keep track of all student assignments by maintaining a weekly checklist in the areas of Language Arts and Mathematics on Microsoft OneNote.
Picture
Weekly assignment checklists such as this can be found on our OneNote Class Notebook
This can be accessed through your student's SD35 Microsoft Office 365 account, which can be found in their agenda. Watch the video below for a full tutorial on how to access the weekly assignments in LA and Math, as well as the corresponding checklists.

Please be aware that completion of assignments ≠ proficiency. Students can have fantastic work habits but may struggle with demonstrating proficiency with the competencies and content. Likewise, students can have poor work habits but excel in the competency area being measured.

We will discuss your student's academic competencies further at Student-Inclusive Conferences. For now, this is a way for you to support your student in building positive work habits ahead entering of high school.

Let me know if you have any questions about the tutorial, technical or otherwise.

October Recap 2023

10/30/2023

It's hard to believe we're at the end of October already. Time has a knack of flying when you're busy and having fun!

This month, Division 1 became way more settled into Grade 7 routines. Each week, the expectations of the class have become clearer for students, and we've spent time infusing purpose into each task we complete so that there is a sense of urgency at working toward our personal learning goals.

In October, students were introduced to their weekly assignment list. This is list that they compile on the first day of the week that outlines all of their assignments in Language Arts and Math for the entire week. Students use this list to plan and manage their flex time, to organize their weekly assignments, and to distinguish whether they need to take home any homework.

Division 1 was also introduced to the weekly checklist on OneNote this month. This list is managed by Mrs. LS and tracks all of the student assignments that have been submitted (or not!) each week. This checklist is central to our classroom routines all year, and it helps students (and their parents) to identify missing work and to notice work habit trends.

Within the next week or two, I will post a video outlining how parents can access the checklist and support your child in completing their assignments. Please be on the lookout for this email and video.

Throughout October, we also:
  • explored the Core Competencies and their meanings,
  • completed the Foundational Skills Assessment (FSA),
  • finished our first unit on decimal place value,
  • created several beautiful pieces of art,
  • learned some conversational French,
  • took part in several collaborative challenges,
  • began our Term 1 read-aloud,
  • moved into our Science rotation for platooning,
  • ... and more!

Hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween! We're looking forward to a great November and meeting you all at Student-Inclusive Conferences near the end of the month!

It's hard to believe September is already over! The air is crisp, the leaves are changing colours and starting to fall, and we are getting into the full swing of Grade 7. It's been a magical month getting to know Division 1 and they are a wonderful group of students who have proven to be deep thinkers and keen learners.

We've had a reflective first month together, from participating in collaborative challenges, to learning about the significance of Orange Shirt Day and reconciliation, to saying goodbye to our amazing principal, Mr. Davids. If you'd like to check out the farewell video from students and staff, you can do so by clicking here.

Below are some key points for families to review to hit the ground running this year, if you haven't done them already. Click the links to complete each task you haven't completed:
  • Join the Division 1 Remind group!
  • Fill out this form about your preteen to help us get to know them better
  • Follow us on the social media of your choice ( Facebook  |   Instagram )

Want to know what's going on in Division 1 in October? Check out the News section of our website, where we share all of the curricular planning each month in our "This Month We're Working On..." section.

Happy fall! Hope you have a fantastic start to your October!

Welcome to Division 1!

Hello students, parents, and guardians,

Welcome to our class blog and website for Division 1 with Mrs. LS and Ms. Sereduik! Please bookmark this page as it will be a valuable communication tool throughout this year. We will be posting everything from classroom happenings to weekly reminders and so much more!

Early this year, our goal is to integrate digital communications tools to make the home-school relationship as seamless as possible. Students will be learning to use tools effectively and appropriately with mindful digital citizenship at the forefront of their learning. We will be using several web-based learning options other than this site in our class this year.

There will also be several ways to communicate and connect with our class, and to keep up with what we’re doing each day. Be sure to follow and like our pages using social media buttons at the top of this page. You don't have to follow them all; just the ones you use.

We also will be using Remind as a class communications tool this year. You can sign up for our class reminders by clicking here and following the prompts.

After following or liking our various social media accounts, it would be very helpful for you to
fill out this short survey about your preteen. It will help us to get to know them better and get us off to a great start to the school year!
We are looking forward to connecting, working, and learning with each of you!
