This week, students were excited to be a part of the following activities:
  • completing another couple of chapters in our Global Read Aloud project. Watch our Twitter feed for our answers to questions and predictions of what is coming next in Marty McGuire!
  • finishing our paper blogs and beginning our learning around the commenting process and MORE digital citizenship
  • adding some exciting spelling and grammar projects to our Daily Five time in LA
  • Analyzing our math patterning strategies and creating new, challenging questions for one another that we will look at next week

We are preparing for next week's parent-teacher interviews, where students will be able to lead their parents and guardians through some of the activities we enjoy in the classroom.

If you still haven't signed up for an interview time, click here for the sign-up.
Check out our slide-show below for some awesome learning shots from the week!

Online Survey - Help Us Get To Know Your Child

If you have not already done so, click here to fill out the survey that will help us get to know you and your child better.

Daily Routines

I will open our classroom door at 8:31 AM at the first bell for students. When the bell rings at 8:36, I will be closing our classroom door to begin instruction for the day. If you are running behind, please do not knock on the outside door, but check your child into the office to ensure they are marked as present in the attendance system. They can then make their way down to the classroom through the hallway. Likewise, if your child has forgotten anything, please drop the item off at the office for them to pick up at recess or lunch.  Interruptions to instructional time are very distracting for everyone and I appreciate your consideration on this matter in advance.

At the end of each day, I will be at the door saying a personal good-bye. If you are delayed either in coming to school or picking up your child up after school, please contact us at the school at 604-888-6444 as soon as you can.  If you would like to meet with me about your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school or via email at volson@sd35.bc.ca to set up an appointment.

Scholastic Book Orders

Each month, I will be sending home Scholastic Book Club orders with your child.  When you support the Book Club, you are also supporting our class! Through your purchases, our class saves bonus dollars on our account that will go towards buying new class materials such as books, literacy and numeracy activities, awards, and other educational items. When you place orders, please submit CASH ONLY (no cheques) as it allows me to place online orders with my credit card, making both the transaction and the delivery more prompt and efficient (I will issue receipts for these purchases upon request). The first order will be sent home tomorrow, September 10th, and will be due back on Tuesday September 17. Thanks in advance for supporting our Book Club!! :)
